South Andaman is one of the three districts of Andaman Nicobar Islands located in the Bay of Bengal Region.South Andaman district occupies an area of 3,181 square kilometres (1,228 sq mi),comparatively equivalent to Canada’s Mansel Island There are four primitive tribes in the South Andamans District and they have been recognised as belonging to the Negrito stock, namely Onges,Jarawas,GreatAndamanese and sentinalese. The District of South Andaman has three tehsils namely “Port Blair”,” Ferrargunj”,”Little Andaman”.

Port Blair is one of the largest towns and a municipal council in the Andaman district of the Andaman Islands. Port Blair is an amazing tourist destination that lies on the east coastal area of South Andaman Island which is another major entry point to the islands. Port Blair is a market town with a sawmill, many local museums, and an airport .Port Blair tourism has many beautiful tourist attractions to offer like Marina Park Complex, Sound and Light Show, Ross Island, Carbyns Cove Beach, Samudrika Museum, Cellular Jail which allure tourists from all over the world to this wonderful place.
How to reach :
The only commercial airport to reach Andamans is located at Port Blair, Veer Savarkar Airport, named after the famous freedom fighter Veer Savarkar who was imprisoned in this island at Cellular Jail earlier known as KaalaPaani. Direct flight to Port Blair is available from Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi. The journey usually takes around 2 Hrs 30 Mins.
The Andaman group of Islands is well connected by sea. Regular passenger services are available to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam.
Chennai – Port Blair , Kolkata – Port Blair takes around 66 Hrs and from Visakhapatnam – Port Blair – takes around 56 Hrs.

Carbyn’scove is the nearest beach to the Port Blair, just 8 km from the city center.Carbyn’s Cove has a small curve of sand backed by palms. The coastal road here is a scenic journey.The beauty of this beach is attractive water sports activities such as windsurfing, snorkeling,Jetski and boating.
Cellular Jail, located in the Port Blair, stood dumb witness to the torture directed at the freedom fighters, who were imprisoned in this prison. The first floor of the building contains an art gallery, a Netaji exhibition, and a library on freedom of movement.Opening Hour is 09:00 am to 12:30am, 1:30pm to 4:45pm, 06:00PM &7:15PM(LIGHT &SOUND SHOW )
North Bay Island is one of the well popular destinations in the Andaman Islands. The beach around the island is very famous underwater coral. It is an ideal place for snorkeling and diving. This is an ideal place for snorkeling and scuba diving. The corals are spread over a large area and thus look stunning. You can spot clams, lobsters and a number of fishes.
A few miles from Port Blair is Ross Island, This island makes you nostalgic and takes you back in time when this was an administrative compromise for the British. The Indian Navy has restored some old buildings, such as a bakery and local stores, where souvenirs are available.Light and sound show is being organized at Ross Island which tells the saga of the islands and its inhabitants in a very creative manner..Timing to visit this place is from 8:30 in the morning to 16:30. [Closed on Wednesday], light & show is at 6:00pm.
ChidyaTapu is 30 km from the main city; this place is famous for watching the sunset and birds. From Port Blair, the journey would take an hour to reach ChidyaTapu.
The beautiful Wandoor Beach is located in Mahatma Gandhi National Maritime Park, about 30 km from Port Blair. This beautiful beach is perfect for watching colorful coral reefs and enjoying the swimming.
One of the most popular excursion from Port Blair is to Jolly bouy island from wandoor, 30km southwest to Port Blair. This white sand long beach is littered with the dry, twisted trunks of trees torn apart and drowned by annual cyclones.
The Red skin island was named because of the abundance of red coral lining the coastal area of the island. This is another jewel in the crown of Andaman Island, featuring beautiful coral reefs, serene beaches, and unspoiled beauty.
Havelock is a picturesque natural paradise with beautiful white sandy beaches, rich coral reefs and lush green forest. Radha Nagar Beach
Radhanagar is the most famous beach in Andaman. This beach has consistently been classified as one of the best beaches in Asia.
Kalapathar Beach is located in one corner of Havelock Island surrounded by dense forests and excellent for secluded seekers and guests looking to do a bit of bird photography.
Elephant Beach, which is located about 10 km from the market, is one of the most popular beaches on Havelock Island for daily excursions. Access to this beach is a hassle-free issue as it can be accessed either by 30 minutes hiking on the forest path or by choosing to ride a boat for one hour.
Neil is a tiny but beautiful island located 37 Kms. to the south of the Andaman Islands. The Natural Bridge is the biggest attraction of Andaman and Nicobar Island which is located on Neil Island. It is widely known as Howrah Bridge. The name of the Howrah Bridge was introduced by the local Bengalis on Neil Island and provides an enjoyable environment for tourists.

Laxmanpur Beach is located in 2 km from Neil Jetty. It has white sink sand along with shallow water, which makes it an ideal place for scuba diving. This beach is familiar for sun basking and swimming as well.
